Ongoing Projects

The ongoing work of the Swannanoa Business Association strives to weave the fabric of community through business relationships by providing resources, relationships, and events fostering responsible economic growth.

Support & grow existing businesses via the following resources, relationships and events

  • Provide networking opportunities for local businesses
    • Business Association holds quarterly General Membership meetings at a local member’s place of business
    • Monthly board meetings are open to all members
    • Members are invited to Black Mountain/Swannanoa Chamber “After Hours” events
  • Provide Marketing Opportunities at low or no cost
    • Members are listed in monthly paper and e-newsletter (online)
    • Members are listed on Business Association website with links to their websites or email addresses
    • Ongoing opportunities for  co-op or discounted advertising
    • Publishing articles on member businesses in newspapers and on websites
    • Spotlight a member of the month on Business Association website and in newsletter
  • Provide information for economic/financial assistance as well as free or low cost business
    • education and consultation
    • Sponsor free or low cost business education, marketing and finance classes locally
    • Provide speakers on topics of interest and assistance to members at Association meetings
    • Provide information on free or low cost business classes and assistance from orgnizations such as                SCORE and A-B Tech Community College- Small Business  Center
  • Help plan, promote and/or participate in local events & Groups
    • Swannanoa Shindigs – First Fridays, Summer & Fall Months- Swannanoa Business Association
    • Business Fair – Spring- Black Mountain-Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce
    • Mill Around the Village Bluegrass Festival- Late September- MAV Festival Association
    • Swannanoa Sweep- Spring and Fall Community Clean Up – SPCC
    • Asheville/Buncombe County Chamber of Commerce/ Tourism & Development Authority
    • Blk. Mtn. – Swannanoa Chamber & Buncombe Co. – Economic Development & Marketing

Advocate for new businesses

  • Increase visibility and use of Beacon Mill Village
  • Develop tourism package to bring increased business to Swannanoa
  • Study possibility of urgent care facility to assist residents, visitors and businesses
  • Study possibility of Passenger Railroad to bring increased business and transportation to               Swannanoa
  • Study possibility of Broadband to assist current businesses and attract new businesses
  • Study possibility of Textile Museum to bring increased business to Swannanoa
  • Study possibility of Traditional Mountain Music Museum to bring increased business to Swannanoa
